Dr. Vintage Custom Control Kits

Drawing from my extensive experience in cleaning, rebuilding and measuring hundreds of control harnesses from vintage Gibson guitars from the '50s and '60s, I've developed modern control kits that capture the best characteristics of those great old Centralab pots and Sprague caps using high-tolerance modern components. And don't think these controls are only for Gibson guitars - they can be configured for a wide range of instruments. Read on!

The Dr. Vintage "Early-Spec" control kits include industry-leader CTS pots, custom-built to my specifications. These pots feature a blend of the 'old' and the 'new'. The resistance levels are in the actual range that the originals find themselves, and they feature a modern, custom taper that eliminate the steep volume and tone transitions that many other controls have. They'll provide the smoothest volume and tone curves you've ever heard. To help with vintage 'vibe', they're also spec'd with a shaft and bushing that matches the look of the old Centralabs under the knobs. I order them with CTS' highest available tolerances.

Every single "Early-Spec" pot is measured and specifically chosen for the neck or bridge position, and the volume or tone position.

To get that vintage tone response from the tone controls, the standard "Early-Spec" control kits use modern .022uf high-grade military surplus capacitors to keep the quality at the highest levels. These caps have received high acclaim for being very transparent and produce a very 'vocal' quality when the tone knob is dialed back.
