Rick Norman Pickups - Models
All Burst-Inspired pickup sets (indeed, all Rick Norman Pickups to come, regardless of model), feature the requisite plain enamel 42 gauge magnet wire, along with Alnico II magnets that have been specifically chosen for that exact model, even down to the neck or bridge position. To faithfully reproduce the total sonic spectrum of the Bursts that inspired them, they feature similar DC resistances, including the 'spread' from neck to bridge.
Naturally, all Rick Norman Pickups are developed in conjunction with Dr. Vintage Early-Spec controls.

The Unburst Set
This set of pickups features a wind that is uncompressed and leaves plenty of head-room for the guitar's voice to speak clearly. They're not intended to over-drive the front-end of an amplifier - quite the opposite. These pickups are intended to let the amplifier itself do the "heavy-lifting". They work great with high-gain amps, and non-master volume amps alike. The bridge pickup is in the 7.75-7.9k range, and the neck pickup is in the 7.55-7.7k range. Each pickup has its own voice, with a clear differentiation between the switch positions. In the center position, there's a moderate amount of what players call 'quack'... not too much, just enough that you can hear it.
In this picture you can see me playing the guitar that inspired the Unburst Set, burning its sound into my DNA. Another fabulous Burst sits behind me, waiting for its turn.

The Phoenix Burst Set
This set of pickups can be called the 'in your face' set. Based on a loud, bad-ass Burst, it features a bridge pickup that gives your amp a good, solid kick - fat and mid-rangey, but still retaining the PAF qualities that we love. The neck pickup is full-sounding without being muddy. For those who need a big-sounding pickup set for the best of classic rock, this is your ticket. The bridge pickup is in the 8.6-8.7k range, and the neck pickup is in the 8.1-8.2k range. The middle position features a little more 'quack' than the Unburst set.
