Rick Norman Pickups - Models

The Dot-neck Set is set of humbucker pickups especially designed for the semi-hollow thinline guitars in the style of the Gibson ES3x5 line of instruments. Made with the same dedication and research as all Rick Norman pickups, these are specially tuned to take advantage of and accentuate the unique tonal features of these guitars. The bridge pickup is in the 8.25-8.30k range, and the neck pickup is in the 7.75k range. Suitable for use in any guitar of similar construction, regardless of manufacturer. Naturally, they were developed in conjunction with Dr. Vintage Early-Spec controls.

I've had the good fortune of playing multiple vintage ES guitars, and have consulted with some of the top collectors of these fine instruments. This helped me arrive at a set of pickups that lets a semi-hollow 'rock' without losing the woodiness that ES fans treasure. All development was done using my vintage 1961 Epi Sheraton as a test instrument.

In this picture you can see my "Dot-neck Set"-loaded Sheraton sitting next to a stunning 1959 Gibson ES335 during one of the side-by-side prototyping sessions.

This wind is my 'personal' set. I developed it in 'Racquel', my favorite Les Paul-style guitar, and it's my 'go-to' set for any solid-body that I want to be truly versatile and cover a wide range of styles. I made a few sets for others when I first developed them, and damn if they aren't nuts about them too! Since their introduction, they've become my best-selling pickup set.

This set does it all. The Neck pickup has a clear, 'round' tone - balanced right in the middle between wooly and bright... just enough of each attribute. The Bridge pickup is just on the 'warm' side of articulate - clear without being brittle, with enough girth to remind you that you're not playing an 'import' Telecaster copy. The middle position has a wide spectrum of sounds - go ahead and juggle those volume controls in the middle position, you'll love what you find. This set of pickups will cover everything from cleans to overdrive with equal class.

Once I got these pickups perfected, I glued down the control cavity cover on 'Racquel' (just kidding... sort-of...). But don't think these are "Les Paul-only" pickups - try them in anything you like. The bridge pickup is in the 8.20-8.30k range, and the neck pickup is in the 7.55-7.65k range.
